The release brings CastReader's core reading tools to the places where people already read. On a laptop, the browser extension works with supported webpages, Google Docs, browser-based reading services and individual responses on selected AI platforms. On a phone or tablet, the native apps are designed for articles, PDFs, ebooks, images and pasted text.

Across these experiences, synchronized highlighting keeps the spoken passage connected to the page. Readers can follow the text as it is read, change the voice or playback speed, and return to the same material later. When a passage needs explanation rather than narration alone, Read & Explain can talk through the available text while keeping the source visible.

One reading experience across desktop and mobile

The browser extension is intended for text that already lives in a desktop tab. CastReader supports current extension listings for Chrome, Edge and Firefox, so a reader can stay on the page instead of copying an entire article or document into another tool. On supported AI sites, a response-level control can play one answer at a time, which is useful for long explanations that are easier to review by ear.

The iPhone, iPad and Android apps extend the same approach to mobile reading. They support phone-first listening to articles and compatible documents, with features such as background playback, synchronized highlighting, automatic scrolling, reading-position memory and lock-screen controls where the device and content format support them.

Built for long reads, study and everyday information

CastReader is designed for the moments when reading competes with time, attention or screen fatigue: following a long article during a commute, listening back to a draft, reviewing a report, or working through a dense passage while the original remains on screen. The product can also help language learners pair audio with visible text instead of treating listening and reading as separate activities.

Read & Explain adds a second layer for material that is difficult to unpack. Instead of replacing the source with a detached summary, the feature presents spoken guidance alongside the original passage and marks the ideas being discussed. Support for nine reading languages

CastReader automatically detects and reads nine supported languages: English, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, Spanish, French, German, Brazilian Portuguese, Italian and Hindi. Readers can choose from the voices available for the detected language and use the same account across supported devices.
